Five Fundamentals Of Poker

There are five fundamentals of poker which every serious player should know. The first is the Expected Value, the second is the Pot Odds & Implied Odds, third Position, on the fourth spot is the Pot Size and last is the Equity.

1. Expected Value

The word Expected Value can also be referred to as "Expectation". These terms are also used in many discussions of poker strategies.

You might wonder what these terms mean. Well the word Expectation or Expected Value originated in mathematics, specifically in mathematics' probability. This Expected Value is also used to identify the outcome of a specific scenario for a long-term average.

For you to be able to calculate the Expected Value you will take all possible results and then multiple with each of the probability. Lastly, you have to add all the numbers together.

2. Pot Odds

Betting means that the players are trying to win some money in the pot, betting can also be called as "call". The meaning of pot odds is this: players are betting a part of the pot's amount to win the bigger amount.

Implied Odds

Is simply the estimation of the amount of money that players can win from calling or betting, that is if players win.

3. Position

The first position means that the player having the position is the first to act before any other players. The position that you have will determine the position that you will act in the game.

The truth of the matter is this, position matters a lot in a poker game. The position of players can affect the expected value in a given hand.

With an early position in the game it can give players some advantage. But the rule of the thumb says that the player with the last position usually has the best advantage since they are the last to act.

4. Pot Size

One factor that must affect your action is the size of the pot. The size of the pot will mean the odds of the pot as well. This will automatically create a chain reaction; the odds of the pot will be an important aspect to identify the expected value that players need to learn before acting.

The following are three points to consider to the size of the pot:

> Do not bluff with a small pot > If the pot increases in amount, make your best to win the game. > You can control the size of the pot to make other players commit mistakes worrying about the pot and not their hands.

5. Equity

Another important fundamental of poker is the equity. The pot equity will determine the value of the pot.
